My message is that we'll be watching you.
This is all wrong. I shouldn't be up here. I should be back in school on the other side of the ocean. Yet, you all come to us young people for hope. How dare you!
저의 메시지는 여러분을 지켜볼 것이라는 것입니다.
이 모든 게 잘못된 것입니다. 저는 이곳에 있어서는 안 되는 사람입니다. 저는 바다 건너 학교에 다녀야 할 사람입니다. 하지만 여러분은 젊은 사람들에게 희망을 바라고 오는군요. 여러분은 어떻게 그럴 수 있나요!
You have stolen my dreams and my childhood with your empty words and yet I'm one of the lucky ones. People are suffering. People are dying. Entire ecosystems are collapsing. We are in the beginning of a mass extinction and all you can talk about is money and fairytales of eternal economic growth. How dare you!
여러분은 제 꿈과 제 어린 시절을 허공에 떠도는 말들로 훔쳐갔습니다. 그래도 저는 운이 좋은 쪽에 속한 것입니다. 사람들은 고통을 받고 있습니다. 사람들은 죽고 있습니다. 전체 생태계가 무너지고 있습니다. 우리는 대멸종의 시작에 있고 여러분은 돈과 영원한 경제 성장의 동화만을 얘기할 수 있습니다. 어떻게 그럴 수 있나요!
For more than 30 years, the science has been crystal clear. How dare you continue to look away and come here saying that you're doing enough when the politics and solutions needed are still nowhere in sight.
30년 이상 동안 과학은 명백하게 말하고 있습니다. 어떻게 여러분은 계속해서 눈을 감고 여기 와서 충분한 일을 하고 있다고 말할 수 있나요. 그런데 정치와 필요한 해결책은 여전히 시야에 나타나지 않고 있습니다.
You say you hear us and that you understand the urgency, but no matter how sad and angry I am, I do not want to believe that. Because if you really understood the situation and still kept on failing to act then you would be evil and that I refuse to believe.
여러분은 우리의 목소리를 듣고 상황의 긴급성을 이해한다고 말하지만, 얼마나 슬프고 화가 나더라도 그걸 믿고 싶지 않습니다. 왜냐하면 여러분이 정말로 상황을 이해하고도 계속해서 대응하지 않는다면 여러분은 사악한 존재일 것이고, 저는 그런 걸 믿지 않겠습니다.
The popular idea of cutting our emissions in half in 10 years only gives us a 50 percent chance of staying below 1.5 degrees and the risk of setting off irreversible chain reactions beyond human control.
10년 안에 배출량을 절반으로 줄이는 일반적인 생각은 우리가 1.5도 이하로 유지할 확률을 50%만 줄 뿐입니다. 그것은 인간이 통제할 수 없는 돌이킬 수 없는 연쇄 반응을 일으킬 위험을 갖게 됩니다.
Fifty percent may be acceptable to you, but those numbers do not include tipping points, most feedback loops, additional warming hidden by toxic air pollution or the aspects of equity and climate justice.
50%는 여러분에게 받아들여질 수 있을지 모르지만, 그 숫자에는 틀림없는 소비점, 대부분의 피드백 루프, 독성 공기 오염에 의해 숨겨진 추가적인 온난화나 공정성과 기후 정의 측면이 포함되지 않습니다.
They also rely on my generation sucking hundreds of billions of tons of your CO2 out of the air with technologies that barely exist.

So a 50 percent risk is simply not acceptable to us, we who have to live with the consequences.

"To have a 67% chance of staying below a 1.5 degrees global temperature rise – the best odds given by the [Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change] – the world had 420 gigatons of CO2 left to emit back on Jan. 1st, 2018. Today that figure is already down to less than 350 gigatons.
"1.5도의 글로벌 온도 상승을 유지할 67%의 기회를 갖기 위해서는 [기후변화간호위원회]가 제시한 최선의 확률에 따르면, 2018년 1월 1일 기준으로 세계는 420 기가톤의 이산화탄소를 더 배출할 수 있는 여유가 있었습니다. 하지만 오늘날 그 수치는 이미 350 기가톤 미만으로 줄어들었습니다.
How dare you pretend that this can be solved with just business as usual and some technical solutions? With today's emissions levels, that remaining CO2 budget will be entirely gone within less than eight and a half years.
어떻게 여러분은 그냥 평범한 방식과 기술적인 해결책으로 이 문제를 해결할 수 있다고 가정할 수 있나요? 오늘날의 배출 수준에서는, 남은 이산화탄소 예산은 8년 반 이내에 완전히 소진될 것입니다.
There will not be any solutions or plans presented in line with these figures here today, because these numbers are too uncomfortable and you are still not mature enough to tell it like it is.
여기서 오늘 제시되는 해결책이나 계획은 없을 것입니다. 왜냐하면 이 숫자들은 너무 불편하며, 여러분은 아직 그걸 솔직하게 이야기할 만큼 성숙하지 않기 때문입니다.
You are failing us, but the young people are starting to understand your betrayal. The eyes of all future generations are upon you and if you choose to fail us, I say: We will never forgive you.
여러분은 우리를 배신하고 있습니다. 하지만 젊은 사람들은 여러분의 배신을 이해하기 시작하고 있습니다. 모든 미래 세대의 눈은 여러분에게 주목하고 있습니다. 그리고 여러분이 저희를 배신하려 한다면, 저희는 절대로 용서하지 않을 것입니다.
We will not let you get away with this. Right here, right now is where we draw the line. The world is waking up and change is coming, whether you like it or not.
여러분이 이걸 그냥 넘어갈 수 있게 두지 않을 것입니다. 바로 여기, 지금 이곳에서 우리가 선을 그을 것입니다. 세상은 깨어나고 변화가 오고 있습니다. 여러분이 그걸 좋아하든 싫어하든 말이죠.
